Privacy policy

Effective September 23, 2026

The short version

  • Your workouts stay on your phone. There's no account and no cloud sync.
  • We collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to improve the app. You can switch them off in Settings.
  • When you use AI Coach, the training preferences you enter are sent to generate your routine.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.

1. Who we are

PlainLift is developed by Felix Braun, based in Canada ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, email support@plainlift.app.

2. Data that stays on your device

Everything you create in PlainLift is stored locally on your phone, including:

  • workouts, sets, weights, reps and personal records
  • routines and programs
  • your training profile — goal, experience level, schedule, focus areas, and any injuries or notes you enter
  • your equipment list and app settings, such as units and theme

We can't see this data, and it never leaves your device except as described in sections 3 and 4. Deleting the app deletes it.

3. AI Coach

AI Coach is optional. Only when you tap Generate routine does the app send the following to our AI Coach server:

  • your goal, experience level, training days per week and session length
  • the equipment you have access to and the muscle groups you want to focus on
  • any injuries or limitations, and any additional notes you type
  • the list of exercises the plan can choose from
  • a random identifier created when you installed the app, used to limit how often requests can be sent

Our server runs on Cloudflare and passes the request to Anthropic's Claude API, which generates the routine. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how it handles data.

Our server doesn't store your request. It uses the install identifier and your IP address only for short-lived rate limiting, to prevent abuse. If a request fails, a short technical log — which can include part of the generated routine — is kept by Cloudflare for a few days so we can fix the problem. Your monthly generation count is kept on your device.

Health information. The injuries field may contain information about your health. It's entirely optional — only enter what you're comfortable sharing. By submitting it, you consent to it being processed to generate your routine.

4. Usage statistics and crash reports

To understand how PlainLift is used and to fix problems, the app sends anonymous usage data to PostHog, our analytics provider. This includes:

  • app events, such as starting or finishing a workout, completing a set, or creating a routine, with simple counts like how many exercises a routine has
  • when you update your training profile, which optional fields are filled in — for example, whether you've added an injury, but never what you wrote
  • crash and error reports
  • device details, such as model, operating system and app version, language and time zone
  • a random identifier that isn't linked to your name, email or Apple ID
  • your IP address, which may be used to estimate your approximate location (country or city)

The content of your workouts — exercises, weights, reps and notes — is not sent. PostHog stores this data on servers in the United States. We keep it for 1 year.

Turning it off. Open Settings and switch off Share usage data. This stops all usage statistics and crash reports from being sent from that point on.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't sell or rent your data.
  • We don't show ads or share data with advertisers.
  • We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
  • We don't ask for an account, and we don't access your contacts, photos or precise location.

If you're in the EU, UK or a similar jurisdiction, we process personal data on these grounds:

  • Usage statistics and crash reports: our legitimate interest in keeping the app reliable and improving it. You can object at any time with the Settings switch.
  • AI Coach: to provide the feature you asked for, and your consent for any health information you choose to include.

7. International transfers

PostHog and Anthropic process data in the United States, and our AI Coach server runs on Cloudflare's global network. Where the law requires it, these transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Email support@plainlift.app.

Because usage data is anonymous, we may need your help to find it — for example, the device and roughly when you used the app. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority — in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

9. Children

PlainLift isn't directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EU, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. Security

Data on your phone is protected by your device's own security. Everything the app sends is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll also let you know in the app.

12. Contact
